Motus Labs ML1000 Series Manufacturing Overview of the design and manufacturing of the ML1000 series. The quick video overview covers these areas:
- Design
- Machining
- Measurement & Quality Assurance
- Assembly & Test
Motus Labs – A revolution in motion. Motus Labs is located in Dallas, TX.
Carlos Hoefken, chief technology officer, invented the unique and revolutionary architecture of our geared solutions. Currently, Motus Labs has over nine patents issued and several US and international pending.
Here at Motus, we continue to innovate and bring cutting-edge automation and robotic technologies to life.
Let’s take a quick look at the various stages of development and manufacturing for the ML1000 series.
- Design
- Machining
- Measurement & Quality Assurance
- Assembly & Test
Design
One of the most exceptional features of the Motus solution is the CAM. A CAM provides the flexibility to find the perfect balance between elasticity, friction, and wear conditions to obtain optimal performance for any given geared solution. Our patented CAM Generator software tool provides the ability to optimize motion by altering the CAM’s geometry. Motus engineers can create a 3D model and final part in minutes rather than days. The CAM blocks engage up to 80% of the output ring surface area at all times-distributing load stress over a much larger surface area for higher torque, per unit size.
A familiar quote from Carlos Hoefken, “The Motus CAM is the physical equivalent of a software program.”
Machining
Motus Labs prides itself on an excellent team of professional machinists with over 60-man years of experience in various machining processes.
Custom-made fixtures for the ML1000 series are used to securely locate and support the milling processes to maintain conformity. We machine limited, initial prototype and RD runs in-house, ensuring all tolerances are within desired specifications. All other volume production runs are machined at one of our custom precision manufacturing facilities located within the US, again where best practices are followed to further ensure machining quality and accuracy.
Measurement & Quality Assurance
After machining, all parts are measured in our temperature-controlled Quality Assurance lab. Again, each part is measured using various industry instruments like the ZEISS coordinate measuring machine. Each part must meet our specifications and tolerance requirements.
Assembly & Test
Each gear is hand-assembled at our facility in Dallas, ensuring assembly tolerances are met and extensive testing is performed for backlash, loss of motion, no-load torque, L10, and other industry testing parameters.
Reliability is important to Motus Labs. Designers of new motion control and robotic applications are choosing Motus for the ability to differentiate their products and breakthrough current geared solution limitations.
Compact, lightweight, high torque density, longer life.
